. j DATA COU£CTION AND STATISTICAL SERVICF • j One aspect of the Coordinating Council's responsibility is the maintenance of an on going informa-tion system. This maintenance involves the collecting and updating of data and computer programs rele- I vant to the Council's planning activities. Part of the activities center around the continuous updating and the future extensions of the Council's GBF/DIME file. The DIME file is a computer readable representation of a street map. [se of the DIME file enables the Council's staff to provide pertinent information quickly and economicially. Work on the DIME file is a cooperative effort with the u.s. Bureau Census who also makes use of the file in their activities. In the past other agencies such as the Ft. Wayne Com-munity Schools have made use of the file in their plan- J ning activities. The Council's use of the DIME file has been supportive to the collection of data and sub-sequent update~. Data collection includes periodic updating ·information on dwelling units, employment, population, motor-vehicle registration and new con-it struction building permits. During the past fiscal year, with the cooperation of the Census Bureau the current limit of the GBF/ J DIME file has been updated and extended. This will -14-
