Ensuring proper commercial growth and development is one of CD&P's wp priorities. INFORMATION SYSTEM Long Range Planning is responsible for providing a wide range of information to other sections within CD&P, other city departments, and to the general public. Primarily, this information is related to census data and to the growth and development occurring in Fort Wayne and Allen County. To assist in this function, three micro-computers and numerous software programs were in operation in 1987. Consequently, a major component of the information system is to research new software and hardware needs and to train CD&P personnel in the use of existing and new software and hardware. A major function of the information system is to disseminate information to the general public. The long range planning staff answered over 500 questions from the general public and had about 50 people visit the office for more detailed information in 1987. Over 80 Data Books were sold in 1987 and preparations were undertaken to update the Data Book in 1988. MISCELLANEOUS The Commercial Site Inventory, a document identifying and examing vacant commercially zoned sites in Fort Wayne, was published in 1987. The 1988-1992 Capital Improvements Program for the City of Fort Wayne was compiled and published in 1987. The Fort Wayne Land Use StudY was com~leted in. 1987. ~s report includes a color map ?f land .use ~n th~ CIty,. contams information about commercIal, reSIdentIal, mdustnal, and recreational acreages. The planning staff prepared three reports and attended. t~ee public hearings conducted by the Allen .CoUl~ty. COmmlSSlOne~ ~n proposals to establish three fire protectIon ~IStnCtS around ~e CIty 10 Adams, Washington, and St. Joe TownshIps. The planmng staffs recommendation to the Commissioners was to deny the requests to create the districts. The Commissioners agreed with the recommendation and rejected the requests.
