TRANSPORTATION 1 During the past year, as part of the transportation planning effort in the Fort Wayne-New Haven-Allen County area, a major two-part review was conducted. The first step in the major review process was the evaluation of the existing travel forecasting models. In the sum-mer of 1975, a roadside survey was conducted in the transport study I area. The information collected during the survey was ·compiled and used to evaluate the travel forecasting models. The results of the 1 evaluation indicated a slight modification of the models was necessary in order to more accurately simulate the travel pattern in the study area in 1970 (the base year). The modi- .J fied models have been accepted by both U.T.A.B. and the Federal Highway Administration. Thus, the first step 1 of the review was completed and the planning process continued into the second step. Work was begun on updating the 1990 Tran~portation Plan, which deals with the roadway network in the study area, into a year 2000 multi-modal transportation plan. The multi-modal plan will encompass not only the roadway network, but all modes of transportation. Work on socio-economic and demographic forecasts has been completed and compilation of roadway. design standards have been initiated. The 2000 plan, whi·ch is expected to be completed in the next 15 months will provide a guide for an orderly program of transportation improvements within the next 20-25 years. 1 Additionally, a transit technical study was completed during the past year. The major product of the J study was a recommended five-year Transit Development Program. This program was adopted by Fort Wayne Public - 10 -
