LAND 'USE-INFORMATION A SUMMARY OF THE 1975-76 LAND USE SURVEY During the ~linter of 1975-76, the Division of Long Planning and zoning conducted a generalized land use survey for the entire City. It was noted in the Existing Study Program that considerable land use information was compiled through the 1972 Community' Renewal Program (C.R.P.). Unfortunately, a careful review of this data, including comparisons with other sources and several spot field checks, revealed that many of the acreage figures contained in the C.R.P. data file were in error. Therefore, it became necessary to completely recalculate the land use acreage figures for the entire City. The compilation of the revised land use figures involved the utilization of several data collection methods. For the majority of the City figures were calculated directly from Quarter Section land use maps contained in the Division of Long Planning and Zoning office. Because these maps have been updated only sporadically in the past several years (no comprehensive update since approximately 1970) it was also necessary to irrp1ement a screening process through comparisons with aerial photography taken in 1973. This screening process was underta~en only in rapidly developing portions of the community. In addition, other in-house sources of information on new or expa~ding land uSe developments were tapped in an effort to prepare the most accurat2 data base Ie under the given conditions. Acreage figures were obtained for each of nine major land use categories: Single and Two Family Residential Multiple Fami Residential Cormne rci al Industrial Public and Semi-Public Educational Co~~unication, Transportatio~ and utilities Streets and Alleys Vacant Totals were prepared on both a Ci ty-wide basis and individually for each of sixteen Planning Areas.
