Since 1972, the concept has been expanded to the present goal of establishing a "public parkway, traversing the city and county, linking park to park, urban to suburban and rural areas, providing unduplicated opportuniteis for recreation, entertainment, culture, experience of nature, walking, biking and boating ••• and flood control." B. Purpose of Plan The basic purpose of the plan is to formulate an Action Plan and Implementation Strategy for the coordinated enhancement of the Rivergreenway. The project has been organized to accomplish a number of irnportant objectives - performance, communication, coordination, engineering, design and economic development. The emphasis is on formulating a Rivergreenway Action Plan and Implementation Strategy that can be used a a working manual for making decisions, pursuing grants and guiding improvements. An important objective of the plan is to provide impetus for economic development associated with the Rivergreenway. C. Study Process A diverse project team was assembled for the Rivergreenway Study. The individual firms which comprised the project team are as follows: MSKTD & Associates, Inc. Architects - Provided project management and coordination for all project resources. Also provided local knowledge and resource management, design, and cost analysis for planned target area projects. Rundell Ernstberger Associates Landscape Architects - Assisted in program development, physical and cultural inventory/analysis, feasibility reports, planning-and design activities for recommended public and private improvements. They were also responsible for the preparation of presentation documents. Wool pert Consultants Engineering & Planning - Involved in program development, project scheduling and management, inventory analysis, economic analysis, planning, engineering schematic design activities, and policy development. 3
