The distribution for these 227 teachers was as follows:: in Years No. oj Cent 20-24 17 7.5 25-29 47 20.7 30-34 41 18.1 35-39 24 10.6 40~44 27 11.9 45-49 27 11.9 50-54 55-59 14 6.2 60+ 10 4.4 No Response 6 2.6 The sample was representative of entire teacher popuiation. 1 The generalization thus foHows that the greatest percentage of Fort Wayne teachers is between 25 and 34. The teachers in this age group usually represent a background of some professional experience and maturity. Usually they have stabilized in a community. It may be noted also that only a small pereEmtage are of retirement age. A third characteristic of importance is the educational preparation of the professional instruetional staff. Fort Wayne teachers have an outstandingly high educational background. Nearly 75 per cent the 1,808 holds a l',J[aster's degree or Master's and hours beyond. Less than one per cent no Bachelor's degree. The Fort Wayne staff has commendable educational preparation. Appropriate incentives and rewards are given for advanced degrees. The data below indicates that nearly 90 per cent of all teaching personnel with more than five years of experience have completed advanced college preparation. 1 Two respondent were sampled from lists of elementary,. junior high, and secondary teachers which were subdivided by race and Response data are presented for all respondents combined throughout chapter since no significant variance occurred between the two groups. 21
