c c~ An Accredited AC DO Facility Office of the Superintendent Policy Statement on Affirmative Action It is the policy of the State of Indiana and the Fort Wayne State Developmental Center to be fair and equitable in all its relations with its employees and applicants for employment without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, ancestry, age, sex or handicap unless otherwise provided by law. As Superintendent, I am committed to the concept of equal employment opportunity and the basic principle that all persons shall be afforded equal access to positions in the public service limited only by their ability to perform the job. Equa~ opportunity in state service is effected through definitive affirmative action programs. This achievement of equal employment opportunity is possible when every citizen and employee realizes that policies to remove inequalities cannot be merely passive. Positive steps must be taken to eliminate conditions which could result in unlawful employment discrimination. The emphasis of this affirmative action plan is to remove employment practices that discriminate illegally on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, ancestry, age, sex, or handicap. This emphasis is the foundation of an effort to recruit and hire qualified persons from protected groups and to encourage their continued employment. Effective affirmative action benefits all agencies, departments. programs, and services by utilizing the talents, resources, and skills of minorities, women, handicapped persons, and persons over 40 years of age. Adoption of this affirmative action plan commits the employees of the Fort Wayne State Developmental Center and all its operative departments to results-oriented program aimed at achieving equal employment opportunity in all occupational levels throughout the agency. /' I, , ( ~ /~I ,/;; .( I;II~. /, May 24, 1988 -Ora R.
