The executive director receives a salary of $18,100 per year, which includes a separate allotment for housing off institutional grounds. The new home adjacent to the Nursing Home is presently occupied by the staff physician. The 1970 budget of the Home is $1.9 million and is expected to be offset by the income. Present rates at the Home are $12 per day in the old section (remodeled) and $15 per day in the new wing. This cost includes all care available at the Home, and the facility is eligible for federal nursing programs. The Home has been completely modernized in recent years and now includes clinical facilities, new recreational areas, beauty and barber shop, therapy rooms, enlarged kitchen and dining facilities, new lobby and entrance, and elevators. DRAINAGE BOARD The drainage board is an ex-officio board composed of the county commissioners and the county surveyor. It has responsibility for building and maintenance of public drains. The board determines practicality of drainage construction after petitions are filed with the board. The board ascertains assessments against affected property owners on the basis of benefits to be realized. The surveyor is the technical authority and makes necessary studies and prepares specifications, as well as supervising construction. MEMORIAL COLISEUM Management of the Coliseum is vested in a board of five trustees, appointed on a non-partisan basis for the term of four years. Two are named by the Circuit Court Judge and three by the County Commissioners. They serve without remunumeration. Although all contracts for purchases must be let by the County Commissioners, the board has wide discretion in its operation. The trustees appoint a Manager at a salary of $14,500 per year. The budget is submitted to the County Council annually and the County Auditor audits its books. Due to its extensive use for various activities the Coliseum is self-sustaining. PRINTING DEPARTMENT A printing department is maintained by the County. It is operated on a full time basis and prints most of the small forms and supplies for the county offices. It is presently under the direction of the County Purchasing agent. HISTORICAL SOCIETY Funds for the operation of the Allen County Historical Museum are received from the County and from membership dues. The board, elected from the membership, employs a Curator and necessary staff. The Curator is paid $8,700 per year. The Fort Wayne Park Board maintains the museum grounds and makes major repairs to the building. 10
