PROGRAMS AND SERVICES Business Visitation Program Department staff make regular visits to area businesses. Staff encourages representatives from the Greater Fort Wayne Chamber of Commerce, Indiana Department of Commerce, Indiana Business Modernization and Technology (BMT), Government Marketing Assistance Group, and the Allen County Department of Planning Services to accompany them on these visits. Basic information about the business is gathered to better work with business trends. Staff provide information to businesses about low-cost or no-cost programs by governmental or quasigovernmental agencies. Staff members also listen to problems, concerns, or opportunities presented by business leaders. The Department then follows up on issues raised during the visit until they are resolved. During 1999, Department staff visited 99 businesses. Many of those businesses represent the area's top employers. Breakfast With the Mayor Program Since 1988, the Breakfast with the Mayor program has been organized and managed by Department staff. Each month, invitations have been sent to a small number of local businesses representing various business sectors. In 1999, former Mayor Helmke held 11 breakfasts with a total of 76 companies. Business representatives who attended had the opportunity to discuss directly with the Mayor any comments regarding successes, problems, or concerns with the City. During these breakfasts, company representatives were also able to discuss business conditions with fellow business leaders. Information obtained from the meetings help the Economic Development Department focus on improving programs, streamlining processes, and developing new incentive projects and programs. The most important facet of the program is the Department's follow-up on concerns and opportunities. Page 16 -- ... .. ... lilt ... -.. .. .-.- --- .-•. .-. --- .. .. - -• • -• • •
