RECOMMENDED IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM FORT WAYNE, IND. *33. That the building code be amended to include those structural features necessary to restrict the spread of fire, especially as to allowable areas, private fire protection, and protection to openings in fire and exterior walls. It is recommended that the National Building Code of the National Board of Fire Underwriters be used as a guide in framing these amendments. 34. That the fire limits be extended to include all closely built business and commercial areas. It is suggested that the Recommended Method for Laying Out Fire Limits by the National Board of Fire Underwriters be used as a guide in framing these extensions. 35. That wood shingle roofs be prohibited throughout the city. ELECTRICITY 36. That procedures be improved and personnel be increased to assure control of all electrical installations and that complete records be kept. 37. That the local private utility be required to obtain approval of the electrical inspector before providing service. 38. That a complete inspection of old wiring be made and defects corrected, and that all wiring be reinspected at suitable intervals. 9 FIRE PREVENTION *39. That a complete code of modern regulations providing adequate control of hazardous materials, processes and occupan.cies, be adopted and rigidly enforced. It is recommended that consideration be given to the adoption of the latest edition of the Fire Pervention Code of the N at i onal Board of Fire Underwriters. 40. That the personnel of the bureau be increased, that additional transportation be provided, that procedures be improved and that complete records be kept. CONFLAGRATION HAZARD *41. That owners of defectively-constructed buildings which involve a serious life hazard or which are so located as to form conflagration breeders be required to protect floor, fire' wall, and exposed window openings. *42. That approved automatic sprinkler equipment be required in all base'ments exceeding 2500 square feet in area used for storage or for business purposes and in all buildings which, by reason of their size, construction or occupancy, involve serious life hazard or which might act as conflagration breeders.
