I. CITY OF FORT WAYNE OFFICE OF THE MAYOR: The Mayor oversees the implementation of policies and the efficient flow of ongoing services through wide appointive powers, including the capability to appoint division heads and many board and commission members. The Mayor may serve unlimited four-year terms. Fort Wayne, the second largest city in Indiana, is the northeast Indiana leader in industrial, educational, and cultural activity. Leadership from the Office of the Mayor is crucial to the entire area. The Mayor controls the major administrative functions of the consolidated city through the seven divisions as follows: Administration & Finance, Community & Economic Development, Public Works, Public Safety, Parks & Recreation, Utility Administration, and Office of the Mayor. Each of these areas is headed by an appointed director. A. B. PUBLIC INFORMATION DIVISION: The Public Information Division is responsible for the effective communication of the mission, objectives and actions of the Mayor's administration and of city government to the public. The Public Information Division utilizes media and public relations, and marketing to achieve its goals. NEIGHBORHOOD SPECIALIST/CITIZEN'S ADVOCATE OFFICE: The Neighborhood Specialist/Citizen's Advocate Office assists citizens with their questions, needs and concerns regarding city government, departments, and services and assists neighborhoods to 'organize, strengthen or reactivate. Serves as a mediator or liaison on behalf of citizens and neighborhood organization with various city departments. Establishes effective methods to improve City government's responsiveness to citizens and neighborhood organizations, and acts as a referral agency to other branches of government and agencies outside City government. Communicates citizen concerns and needs to, and updates the Mayor with information and concerns from neighborhood leaders and residents and relays the Mayor's response to the citizens and neighborhood organizations. Citizens and neighborhood organizations can communicate with the Neighborhood Specialist/Citizen's Advocate Office via the telephone, visits to the office, the mail, or meetings with the staff. C. NORTHEAST REGIONAL COORDINATING OFFICE, GOVERNOR'S COMMISSION FOR A DRUG-FREE INDIANA: The Northeast Regional Coordinating Office of the Governor's Commission for a Drug-Free Indiana functions under a performance contract with the Mayor's Office. This office identifies, coordinates and initiates comprehensive strategies for dealing with issues of drug and alcohol abuse prevention, treatment, education, enforcement and justice. Working under the general direction of the Commission and a Regional Advisory Board, the office monitors and coordinates the activities of Drug-Alcohol Councils in each of the seven counties of the Northeast Region: Adams, Allen, DeKalb, LaGrange, Noble, Steuben and Wells. D. DEPARTMENT OF LAW: It is the mission of the Department of Law to manage the legal affairs of the City of Fort Wayne by giving legal advice to the officers, departments, boards, commissions and other agencies of the City; by drafting ordinances and other legal papers for the City and its departments, boards, commissions and other agencies; by prosecuting violators of City ordinances; and by supervising and directing all litigation in which the City has an interest.
