"~ V. I. FISCAL DEPARTMENT: The Fiscal Department is responsible for financial management of the myriad federal, state and local funds which support the Division's activities. METROPOLITAN HUMAN RELATIONS: Metropolitan Human Relations was established to ensure the equal rights of all people, regardless of race, color, sex, age, religion, national origin, ancestry, or handicap condition. It strives at all times to promote community harmony and alleviate tensions caused by harassment, prejudice, and misunderstanding, through the use of enforcement, education, training, and community awareness. VI. PUBLIC WORKS: The Division of Public Works is the administrator for much of Fort Wayne's infrastructure, as its departments maintain and improve the City's systems for transportation and solid waste. From engineering an intersection improvement to battling floods, the Division of Public Works provides vital support to neighborhoods, businesses and economic development .projects. A. OFFICE OF THE DIRECTOR: The Director's Office is the center for processing construction projects, public hearings and a variety of other mandated functions related to purchasing and contracting. B. SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT: The Solid Waste Manager is responsible for monitoring the City's garbage contract. C. CITY ENGINEER: The City Engineer's Office is responsible for direction and coordination of the activities of City departments concerned with public works and City Utilities engineering and other duties as requited by State statutes, especially those statutes concerning the protection of public health, safety and property. It is the duty of the City Engineer to oversee the preparation of plans and specifications for the competitive bidding of Capital Improvement Projects, public works maintenance projects requiring engineering expertise and all other improvement projects necessary for the safe, economical and efficient operation of the public works sector of the City government. D. TRANSPORTATION ENGINEERING: Transportation Engineering is responsible for the planning, development and implementation of all major improvements to Fort Wayne's transportation system. The department serves as the coordinator of street improvement projects which utilize state and federal funding. It is also responsible for the design and coordination of all flood abatement projects. E. TRAFFIC ENGINEERING: The wide spectrum of responsibility covers all aspects of highway traffic design and traffic safety including implementation of programs related thereto. The Traffic Engineering Department provides the following services to the public: design, installation and maintenance of traffic signal systems; traffic signs and pavement markings; record, tabulate and analyze accident reports; investigate all requests and complaints related to traffic conditions and operations; and conduct traffic studies relating'to one way streets, parking regulations, speed limits, roadway design, traffic control, street lighting, special signing, etc. F. STREET ENGINEERING: The Street Engineering Department has the responsibility for the design and preparation of plans and specifications for all new construction and repairs for streets, sidewalks and curbs in the City of Fort Wayne. Many construction projects are the result of petitions filed by property owners who desire to finance these neighborhood and economic development improvements through assessment of their JJJ - lO/January 27, 1995
