34/ FORT WAYNE PARKS AND RECREATION ... Project Administration Section The Project Administration Section is responsible for design, engineering, technical assistance, cost estimating, and project inspection either directly or through the procurement and management of consulting engineers, landscape architects, or other professionals. The staff also assists with short and long range planning, implementation of special projects and assignments, graphic presentation, and administers most of the Department's capital improvement projects. Two Project Administration staff members attended the Playground Safety Institute hosted by the Indiana Parks and Recreation Association in November. The three-day course covered many aspects of playground safety including design criteria, accessibility, surfacing and hazard identification. Both gentlemen passed a qualifying exam and are now Certified National Playground Safety Inspectors. AutoCAD software, a digitizer board, Pentium computers, and the plotter continued to enhance our productivity. The purchase of a large document copier has made it possible to copy old blueprints instead ofloaning out our only copies. Major projects completed in 1999 include: • Historic Wells Street Bridge Renovation • Sears Pavilion Phase II Renovation • Riverlodge Pavilion Phase II & III Renovations • Historic Fort Stabilization Project Phase II • Community Center Parking Lot Expansion • Freimann Square Lower Plaza Rehabilitation • Foellinger Theater Sound System Upgrade Projects initiated in 1999 include: • McMillen Ice Arena Addition and Renovation • Bob Arnold (Northside) Park Main Pool Filter Replacement • New Play Complex in Franke Park The work program matrix on the following pages summarizes all the projects undertaken by the Project Administration Section during 1999.
