SYSTEM NO. 8 KOESTER DITCH AND TRIBUTARIES General Comments The watershed drained by Stream System No. 8 consists of 5.56 square miles in the north-east quarter of Allen County. Located just north-east of Ft. Wayne, the watershed is over four miles long (north to south) and ranges up to approximately 2 miles wide (east to west). Koester Ditch is the main "drain for the watershed and outlets into the Maumee River Just downstream of New Haven. Langley and Mowrer Ditches are tributaries of Koester Ditch. Grice Ditch is a tributary of Langley Ditch. The watershed area is almost exclusively used for some form of farming operation. Little flood plain encroachment has occurred up to the present time. Curve number 82 was used throughout the. watershed for the flood routings. The flood profiles show the Standard Project Flood as backing up at the Norfolk and Western Railroad. Water pooling at this elevation would possibly spillover into the drainage area to the west of System No. 8 as marked on Exhibit B, Sheet I of 2. Approximately 7 miles of System No. 8 streams were studied for this document. Measurement of flooded areas from Exhibit B, Flood Hazard Areas Maps, shows that approximately 230 acres would be inundated by the 100-Year flood. The Standard Project Flood would cover approximately 700 acres. I
