S. 27 Northeast By-pass of Fort Wayne in Allen County, Indiana. The entire project area is within the jurisdictional boundaries of the Ninth Coast Guard District. However, bridge permits are required only for those structures constructed across the Maumee River from the mouth upstream to the Maumee-Perrysburg Highway Bridge (Route U. S. 20) in Ohio at mile 14.44. The remaining upstream reaches of the Maumee River and its tributaries were placed in an advance approval category by the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers in 1960. The advance approval category of the Maumee River and its tributaries requires that the bridges to be constructed shall allow for the free flow of flood waters, with no consideration required for navigation. Therefore, a Coast Guard permit will not be required for any of the bridges to be constructed within the proposed project area. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact this office. Encl: (1) Questionnaire Sincerely, 7JJ-;j~ H. H. KOTHE Captain, U. S.
