• Hispanic Community by furthering the involvement of the Hispanic population in the City program. Community Education Program was funded with $18,500 in CDBG monies to develop educatlon/ leisure/social programs, activities, and opportunities utilizing neighborhood schools, churches, parks, volunteer:-s, and other community resources. Bloomingdale School (which serves the H.A.N.D., Fairmont and Nebraska neighborhoods), Ward Elementary School,(serving Oxford and McCulloch Center) and Memorial School (serving Memorial Park) have all been involved. Contacts with Bunche School and the Hanna-Creighton area have been made and programs will be initiated the first quarter of 1984. To date a total of 746 students have been involved. Emergency Home Repair Program was originally funded with $73,275 in CDBG monies, and an additional $25,150 was added to this budget becau~e of the tremendous response and success of the program to assist low to moderate income owner occupants who qualify for financial assistance in repairing hazardous housing problems. All work contracted for 1983 has been com pie ted, ins p e c ted , ''''a n d submitted for payment. Total clients assisted were 55. Of this total 44% were black, 10% were hispanic, and 45% white. Minority contractor participation was 18%. Met r 0 Fa i rHo u sin g rtla S fun d e d ftli th $27,400 in CDBG monies and is designed to help eli-minate housing discrimination in the City of Fort Wayne. Of the 74 persons interviewed by intake officers, a great number dealt with inquiries and informal complaints regarding landlord vs. tenant problems (repairs, withholding of security deposits, delinquent rentals, etc.). In-house training sessions were conducted, and various staff members attended training sessions on Human .Rights. A total of 12 cases were actually filed. Hanna-Creighton Nutrition Project is a community nutrition center which promotes the preservation of seasonal garden surpluses. In 1983, the Hanna-Creighton Nutrition Project prepared a total of 3,495 cans of fruits and vegetables, and served a total of 4,993 persons citywide through gardening demonstrations, canning activities, and nutrition seminars.
