DIVISION OF PLANNING The Director of Planning is primarily responsible for the overall management of the Division of Planning. The Director's responsibilities include implementation of the work program, staff assignments, performance evaluation, and project coordination. Accomplishments in 1981 include developing and implementing the Division's first work program and quarterly reporting system and revising all job descriptions. The Director of Planning also oversees the Department's library. In 1981 the library was developed from an idea to a working entity. The formation process included staffing the library with a full-time librarian/ research assistant; an inventory of existing books, periodicals, etc.; a survey of staff needs; and the classification of all materials for easy reference. The library contains approximately 3000 pieces of information on topics ranging from land use controls to citizen participation. Through affiliation with the American Planning Association and the Council of Planning librarians, the Department has access to a network of information that goes well beyond its own materials. The Division of Planning is comprised of three planning sections. The accomplishments of each section are discussed on the following pages. The land Use Management Section is presented first, followed by long Range Planning, and Neighborhood Planning and Urban Design. 5
