Fall Campus Visit Days
IPFW Insight Day was held Sunday, Nov. 12. The afternoon was designed for prospective students of any age to explore academic programs offered on campus. A total of 399 students and parents attended the program. After the general session, students had the opportunity to participate in academic open houses in any of the schools/divisions, tour campus, or attend interest sessions about financial aid, choosing majors and careers, and special opportunities for African-American and Hispanic students. Thanks to all who were involved and helped Admissions present a positive image of IPFW. The annual Health Career Day was held on Dec. 6. Conferences and Staff Activities
Admissions' administrative staff continues to be involved in several staff professional organizations and conferences. The Indiana Association of College Admission Counselors annual Congress was held in Indianapolis in September. Karl Zimmerman, Carol Isaacs, C.C. Fullove, and Lila Hammer attended the two-day conference and were involved in presenting and recording several sessions. Hammer served as the program chair for the event and will be the general chair for the 1990 Congress. The annual meeting of the Indiana Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers was held at the Indiana University Conference Center in October. Isaacs and Hammer attended the meeting at which Isaacs concluded a two-year appointment as chair of the publications committee. Karl Zimmerman, Marian Adair, Bob Barrett, and Linda Balthaser attended the National Orientation Directors Association annual conference in Traverse City, Mich., in October. Many new ideas were gathered to enhance IPFW's Student Orientation and Registration (SOAR) program. Fullove continues his involvement on the Steering Committee for Improved Participation in Postsecondary Education (SCIPPE) in northeastern Indiana. This coalition is working to reach at-risk students early in high school to encourage college planning and academic preparation. Also, he attended the annual meeting of the Indiana Coalition of Blacks in Higher Education last fall in Indianapolis.
Fall Visits
The admissions staff makes several visits to area high schools throughout the year. Last fall, visits were made to 54 high schools and 16 college fairs where a total of 1,482 prospective students were contacted. Also, staff members provided college planning programs at several high schools aimed at helping students and parents prepare for the college selection process.

Between Sept. 11 and Dec. 29, the office received 10,281 phone calls from on and off campus. During the same period, 6,109 people stopped in to ask quick questions or pick up Information. A total of 748 scheduled and 318 unscheduled appointments were held with the admissions counselors. During the fall semester, 51 individualized tours were given by current IPFW students to prospective students. This is an important aspect of choosing a college.
