IPnotes has a new look this week … our 'masthead' with school mascot, the mastedon [mastodon]. Funk and Wagnalls describes the mastedon [mastodon] as "….a large, slow moving, now extinct mamal [mammal] resembling the elephant." Draw your own conclusions to the appropriateness of the mascot.

ENERGY EFFICIENT LAUNDERING Hot water laundering is expensive. For the average household, water heating accounts for 15 percent of the total energy bill, much of which is hot water for washing clothes. For the Nation as a whole, hot water laundering consumes as much energy as is contained in 110,000 barrels of oil each day. The cost of home laundering can be cut in half, according to the Washington-based Alliance to Save Energy, by adopting the following suggestions: Use as low a water temperature for the washing cycle as will give satisfactory cleaning. Detergent, not water temperature, is the principle means of cleaning. Use cold water for the rinse cycle, as this has no effect on cleaning. Use special washing machine features such as controls that vary water levels, allow short cycles and presoaking, and save suds. Check the machine operating manual for additional features. Hold laundry until there are enough items to do a full load, but don't overload.
