SECOND MEETING -- NEWS & FUN !!
The REASSOCIATION met on November 12 in the Walb Union and enjoyed refreshments, entertainment, an informative program and a good time. Lew Wise was host. Thirty-one IPFW retirees & spouses attended. The program began with a variety of songs sung by accomplished music student, Jane Knapcxyk. Don Katter, Director of the Physical Plant, told about the new science building which will house chemistry, biology and earth sciences: he described the new mall and told about the new parking garage which will be built next year. Judy Tillapaugh, IPFW Wellness Director, described the campus wellness program and gave helpful tips for healthy eating during the holidays. She even brought a pound of fat (ugh!) to pass around and enforce her points.
MARK YOUR CALENDERS NOW FOR THE NEXT MEETING -- FEB. 11, 1997
The next meeting of the REASSOCIATION will be at 10:00 A.M. in Walb Union Building on Tuesday, February 11. We will meet in the room at the bottom of the stairs, across from the cafeteria. Betty Folks will treat the group for coffee and Renate Lichti will bring cookies to share. Come join with us. If you really want to mark your calenders in advance, put down April 22 for the fourth and final meeting of the REASSOCIATION for the 96-97 academic year. Plans call for the first 97-98 meeting to be in the middle of next September.
THE REASSOCIATION IS - - -
made up of IPFW retirees and spouses of retirees who meet four times a year for the purpose of enjoying each other, learning, growing, having fun, and being of service to the University. Persons who have worked at IPFW a significant number of years but who did not meet the formal retirement status requirements of P.U. or I.U. are also welcomed in the REASSOCIATION . There is not even a cost of attending. Plan on being at the February meeting, if you possibly can. We would love to see you and to exchange some old stories with you.
EATING TOO MUCH THIS HOLIDAY SEASON? NOT GETTING ENOUGH EXERCISE? PUTTING ON THE INCHES?
If so, you may want to consider doing what Ann Dirkes does. She pays an activity fee to use the Hilliard Gates sports complex and she gets her money's worth. Her fee entitles her to use all the exercise equipment including running or walking the indoor track. The cost to REASSOCIATION folks is the same as for active faculty and staff - - - $60/yr. After this coming January 10, the cost will be $30 for the remainder of the 96-97 academic year. Call 481-6643 for more information and burn those calories.
HELP PROMOTE THE ARTS AT IPFW
The School of Fine and Performing Arts has started a new organization of students, faculty, staff, and town's people to help promote and support the units within that school - - - music, theater, and the fine arts. The organization, which meets monthly at noon, has been named ARTS ADVOCATES*IPFW. Barb Hill is a member of this group. Should you wish to become involved call 481-6977. Dues are $15/yr.
IPFW HAS WINNING ATHLETIC PROGRAM
Skeet and Dolores Herdman were on hand to watch their grand daughter, Keri, contribute to the Lady Volleydons victories in the GLVC tourney. Keri is a senior in education. The men's basketball team, under new coach Williams, has won the Summit City Shootout and has lost only one game thus far. Women's basketball is off to a good start with the team losing their first game but bouncing back to win in the second game in the Summit City Shootout. Men's volleyball will begin around the end of January and we are expected to have a strong team again this year. If you enjoy good sports, you can certainly see them here in our own Gates Sports Complex. Come out and support the fine men and women who play on our teams. If you volunteer to work you can even get in free. Or, for $150 or more, you can join the Royal Dons and receive season passes.

FLORIDA SNOW BIRD SPREE
Planning is still in the works for a winter gathering of IPFW folks somewhere in Florida during February or March. Watch for the details in the newsletter.
LET'S GIVE OURSELVES A PAT ON THE BACK FOR CHRISTMAS THIS YEAR!!
It has been just over thirty years since IPFW was formed. To begin with, the campus consisted of an administration/classroom building, a boiler plant, one long paved road and some parking lots. Most of our programs were transfer programs with students having to transfer to either Purdue Univ. or Indiana Univ. to complete their degree requirements. Students referred to our campus as "Bypass U", community people called us "The Extension." We changed all that - - - you and I did! We spent most of our working lives in all sorts of roles on this campus and, overall, we did a good job. IPFW is now a humming place with a well developed campus, a solid faculty and staff and student enrollments of around 11,000. We have helped thousands of people to attain their educational goals and to become upwardly mobile in our society. We have even created a better environment for our community. Hey!! A toast!! To us!! Damn fine Job!!
THAT'S IT FOR NOW!!!
You will receive a reminder before the next REASSOCIATION in February. We don't want you to miss out on the fun and fellowship. In the meantime, have a merry Christmas and do get started off to a great new year. If you have any news or thoughts to share, pass them along to Dick Hill - - - 3534 Rockwood Dr., FW, 48815, (219) 484-2995. It will make his day. Thanks!! See Ya!!
