Migraines: Causes and Preventions
More than 29.5 million Americans suffer from migraines, with women being affected three times more often than men. Less than half of all migraine sufferers have received a diagnosis of migraine from their healthcare provider. Migraine is often misdiagnosed as sinus headache or tension-type headache.
Many factors can trigger migraine attacks, such as:
•
Altered Sleep Cycle • Meds that cause • Stress, Stress, & Stress
•
Skipping Meals swelling of Vessels • Skipping Meals

Bright Lights/Sun • Certain Foods
•
TV/Movie Viewing • Excessive Noise
There are a few things that you can help to control or even prevent headaches. Obviously, one of the simplest and most effective ways of cutting down on migraine attacks is to avoid the things that set off, or trigger, attacks. But while some triggers may almost always lead to an attack -you may already know a few of your own -others may not bring on an attack every time. Sometimes, the right combination of factors might start an attack. Here are some tips to prevent and/or control migraines.

How to Have A Safe and Fun Sumrner
POOL SAFETY If you have a pool or frequent a pool often during the summer, here are some ways to keep your family safe around a pool.
Never leave your children alone in or near the pool, even for a moment.
•
Keep rescue equipment (such as a shepherd's hook or life preserver) and a telephone by the pool.
•
Do not let your child use air-filled "swimming aids" unattended because they are not a substitute for approved life vests and can be dangerous.
•
Anyone watching young children around a pool should learn CPR and be able to rescue a child if needed . Never wear earphones while supervising children. You need to hear what is going on at all times.
•
Remove all toys from the pool after use so children aren't tempted to reach for them.
Remember, teaching your child how to swim does not mean your child is safe in water. For more information, visit the American Academy of Pediatrics website: www.aap.orq
